Sarbjit Athwal
Founder & Chief Executive
Sarbjit Athwal is the Founder and CEO of True Honour and a survivor of honour-based violence. Her lived experience, and her role as the key prosecution witness in the landmark murder case of her sister-in-law, Surjit Kaur Athwal, have shaped her lifelong commitment to protecting others from abuse.
After years of fear, silence and failed opportunities to intervene, Sarbjit’s evidence helped secure justice in a case that became one of the UK’s most significant prosecutions of so-called honour-based murder.
Today, through True Honour, she uses that experience to support victims and survivors, strengthen safeguarding, train professionals and challenge the silence that allows honour-based abuse to continue. Her work is driven by one clear belief: no one should have to lose their life before they are heard, believed and protected.
Dr Clive Driscoll
Co - Founder & Deputy Chair
Dr Clive Driscoll is a retired Detective Chief Inspector with the Metropolitan Police and Deputy Chair of True Honour.
As Senior Investigating Officer in the murder of Surjit Kaur Athwal, Clive led the reinvestigation that resulted in the first UK honour-based violence murder conviction secured without a body being recovered.
His persistence, belief in the witnesses and determination to pursue justice were central to bringing those responsible to account in a case that had remained unresolved for years.
Since the formation of True Honour, Clive has brought his extensive policing and investigative experience to the charity, helping to strengthen safeguarding practice, train professionals and champion the importance of listening, believing and acting when someone may have only one chance to ask for help.
Kevin Hurley
Chair of Board of Trustees
Kevin Hurley is a former senior police officer with more than 30 years’ experience in policing, public protection and safeguarding vulnerable people. He went on to serve as Surrey’s first elected Police and Crime Commissioner, where his work included a strong focus on victim support and tackling serious forms of violence and abuse, including female genital mutilation.
Throughout his career, Kevin has worked at both operational and strategic level, bringing extensive experience of policing, leadership and protecting those at risk.
His wider advisory work, including internationally, has strengthened his understanding of honour-based violence and the challenges faced by victims and survivors. As Chair of True Honour, Kevin brings that experience to the charity’s mission to improve safeguarding, challenge harmful practices and help ensure that those at risk are heard, believed and protected.
Brendan Weir
Treasurer
Brendan brings over 40 years of experience as a financial consultant specialising in investments, pensions, and mortgage planning, following a decade in retail banking. Now retired, he uses his extensive financial knowledge to support True Honour’s governance, stability, and long-term growth with commitment and care.

Finance Trustee
Kesh Chanthirakumar is Finance Trustee at True Honour, a qualified accountant with 6+ years’ finance experience in Tech and Energy. Kesh oversees budgeting, financial planning, and statutory reporting, moved to join True Honour by Sarbjit’s story and committed to building safe spaces for survivors.
Ashna Tumber
Secretary of the Board of Trustees
Ashna Tumber is Secretary Trustee at True Honour, with over 35 years’ service at Thames Valley Police, including many years as a 999 call taker. She also serves on the Executive Team for the National Sikh Police Association. Ashna is passionate about supporting survivors with empathy, dignity, and care.

Her people-first approach creates inclusive, high-performing workplaces where individuals feel valued, supported, and able to thrive through change.

Shanai Nicole is a marketing and communications specialist dedicated to amplifying survivor voices and driving social impact. With expertise in digital strategy, branding, and content creation, she leads True Honour’s marketing efforts, raising awareness of honour-based abuse and strengthening the charity’s public presence and partnerships.
